HiFlex Design: Modalities and Mindsets for Planning Webinar

Robin DeRosa and Martha Burtis join us from the Open Learning & Teaching Collaborative at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire. Robin is known for her work in Open Education and for building academic programs that foreground flexibility and learner-driven curriculum. Martha designs digital environments for education and specializes in creating online spaces that nurture student agency and creativity. Since COVID, they have been working on helping faculty and institutions develop more flexible approaches to teaching, and they were recognized by Berlin Science Week for the 2020 Breakthrough of the Year in Digital Education for this work.

Since COVID, more and more faculty have been transitioning their courses into online modalities, and many have been using more hybrid and blended formats to increase flexibility for students and provide continuity in learning during a challenging time. In this presentation, Robin and Martha will look at different models for creating flexibility in course design that expand the possibilities between fully online and fully face-to-face learning. Focusing on building adaptable and equitable environments that foster connection between learners, Robin and Martha will explore lessons learned during COVID teaching and map opportunities for the future.

This one hour webinar is targeted to faculty, but is open to any interested Ohio community college personnel.
